Points of Interest:

- Listen for wood thrushes and ovenbirds in the deep shade of this forest.
Natural Features Description:
This old-growth forest is dominated by white oaks and sugar maples. In the absence of fire, storm damage, or other disturbances this forest will eventually become dominated by the shade-tolerant sugar maple. The girth and height of the dominant overstory trees here is reflective of the productive loess-derived soils in this hollow. The hollow faces east that creates more moist and cool conditions than west facing ravines.
This natural area is within Babler State Park. From the intersection of Highways 100 and 109 in Wildwood travel north for about 1.5 miles on Highway 109. Then turn left (west) onto Highway BA. Follow Highway BA west for 2 miles. The park entrance is on the left (west). Follow the main park road west to the Visitor’s center. Inquire at the Visitor’s center about visiting the natural area which is east of the campground. A map and compass are recommended to explore the area.
