Did you know there are treasures hiding all around you? Geocaching is a fun pastime in which you follow GPS coordinates to a specific location or box filled with trinkets. In this program, we will discuss different types of caches, safety, and apps that can be used. Then we’ll hit the trails to find some “treasure.” Please bring a smartphone that can download the free version of the Geocaching® app.

This year we'll be exploring the beautiful variety of habitats found in Missouri, and the animals that call these places home. Throughout the two days of camp, participants will explore Missouri’s habitats by foot, canoe, and jumping right in! A welcome email will be sent prior to the program with full details and a packing list. Snacks, safety, and all equipment are provided. Each child is only eligible for one Kids Camp session per year.

This year we'll be celebrating the beautiful habitats of Missouri. Join us for two days of wild adventure as we experience different habitats. The goal for this camp is building adventure skills and natural know-how. A welcome email will be sent prior to the program with full details and a packing list. Snacks, safety, and all equipment are provided.

Leave your phone at home and take this chance to relax and reconnect with nature. Time in nature is healing, an opportunity to slow down and focus.

Class may take place outdoors if weather permits. Otherwise, we'll practice indoors with suggestions to further your nature time after class. This program is beginner-friendly and mats are provided; however, you are welcome to bring your own mat and other props. Please wear comfortable clothing and we encourage you to bring your own water bottle.

Participants under 18 need to be accompanied by a participating adult. Please register both people. Only those registered may attend program.

Fishing is a great opportunity to engage with our natural resources, grow close to family, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Join the Missouri Department of Conservation at Giessing Lake in Engler Park on July 3 from 9am-12pm for a free fishing opportunity. Participants will be provided fishing equipment and bait free of charge with no registration or permit necessary. So come get hooked on fishing with MDC.

Fishing is a great way for kids and families to have fun outdoors, learn about conservation, and make happy memories. Our Discover Nature-Fishing program is a hands-on, four-part fishing instruction series that helps families gain the skills and confidence they need to go fishing on their own.

This program will cover the Discover Nature-Fishing Lessons 1 and 2, which are best to complete before Lessons 3 and 4 (hosted later). Participants will learn about fishing equipment, casting, rigging a fishing rod, baiting a hook, and proper fish handling. The Discover Nature-Fishing program is available for ages 7 and up. This program will take place at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center. Participants will not be required to have a valid fishing license for this program.

Come join the boardgame club for nature lovers! This monthly program will begin with a short program highlighting a different nature-themed board game, and how it relates to Missouri’s mission to have world class fish, forests, and wildlife. After the intro…let the games begin! There will be games available for all experience levels, though on average these games have a higher complexity level than family board game players may be used to, these games are most appropriate for ages 12 and up. You are welcome to bring any snacks and non-alcoholic beverages you wish, as well as nature-themed board games to share from your collection.

Make a splash as we explore Whitewater Creek and discover the cool creatures that call it home! We will provide nets and containers for aquatic animal observation. Come dressed to be in the creek with clothes and shoes that can get wet (an old pair of sneakers or closed-toe water shoes work great; no flip-flops or crocs, please). We will meet at the nature center.
