This is your chance to meet a real snake at Powder Valley. Join us in the lobby to learn about the role snakes play in Missouri and our everyday lives.

Join us as we read OF TIME AND TURTLES by Sy Montgomery (one of our favorite authors). This book is about rescuing turtles and the people who devote their lives to saving them.

Summer hiking is hot! Skip the heat and join us on a dusk hike. We will look and listen for iconic summer creatures like frogs and owls.

Remember to pack water and good walking shoes.

Come meet one of the ambassador snakes who calls Powder Valley home. Learn all about that species and hear about its journey of coming to live at the Nature Center. After the snake encounter, spend time enjoying the rest of the exhibits! An MDC naturalist and ambassador snake will be located inside the Nature Center lobby.

Join an MDC naturalist for a hike centered around wildflowers. Learn about the different species, their historical uses, and enjoy the beauty that nature has to offer. This hike will take place on the Hickory Ridge trail on the short loop, which measures to be about 1/2 mile long. Wear good walking shoes, dress for the weather, and be prepared for some inclines and declines. Meet the naturalist at the frog statue in front of the nature center.

There is more than one way to connect with nature. In the June classes, we delve into the shadows.

Get an up-close look at the fascinating feeding habits of Missouri venomous snakes! Join Powder Valley naturalists virtually for the feeding of our captive snakes while learning more about the interesting lives of both copperheads and timber rattlesnakes. Please register all individuals who will be watching the livestream (including children) so that we may get an accurate total for the amount of people who participated in this program.

This program will take place on the virtual meeting platform Webex. The link for the program will be sent out to registered participants one week before the program, as well as one day before the program.

We will be going on a bug hunt through the garden, grasses, and woods. Will we find any cicada shells as well as other insects? Who will catch the first grasshopper? Dress for the weather and wear insect repellant. Stay afterwards to enjoy stories by the librarian.
