JEFFERSON CITY Mo – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has lifted its statewide fire ban on all conservation areas effective immediately. According to MDC, the remnants of tropical storm Isaac are bringing significant rain to most of the state.

Plattsburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Department of Conservation's (MDC) McGee Family Conservation Area will open for public use on Sept. 15., providing additional hunting, fishing and hiking opportunities in northwest Missouri. The almost 1,000-acre upland area is south of Plattsburg and can be accessed off Route C or County Road 240. In the area’s northeast corner there is frontage on both sides of the Little Platte River.

Kansas City, Mo. -- The recent scattered rains across west Missouri provided a temporary break from drought in an unusually hot summer, but the moisture was not sufficient to end wildfire dangers. The public is urged to avoid burning in outdoor areas and be careful with spark sources such as lit cigarettes and farm machinery, said Mark Nelson, a regional forestry supervisor for the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC). Many counties and all MDC conservation areas still have burn bans in place.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Missouri Department Conservation (MDC) staff in southwest Missouri are looking for signs of a deer disease that periodically appears at this time of year. Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) is present in deer populations throughout the central and southeastern U.S. and periodically appears in Missouri.
