KANSAS CITY MO - The riffle beetle and the horsehair worm will be conservation teaching tools Saturday at “Science Matters,” a community event at the National Science Teachers Association regional conference in Kansas City.
Missouri Department of Conservation education consultants Sally Bell and Kathie May will be among the presenters talking science with students, parents and science teachers from 8:30 to 11 a.m. in Exhibit Hall B at the Kansas City Convention Center, 301 W. 13th St.
Bell and May will show visitors how they use freshwater invertebrates such as bugs, snails, worms and crayfish to teach students about how some critters can tolerate polluted water while others perish. The riffle beetle demands clear water, while the horsehair worm survives in polluted streams.
Science Matters is free and will include exhibits, hands-on activities and demonstrations.
