Kansas City, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will close the Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs until after 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, April 4-5, during a special managed youth turkey hunt. MDC’s Burr Oak Woods Nature Center is already closed as a precaution due to the COVID-19 virus. The entire conservation area surrounding the center will be closed during the youth turkey hunt, including all trails and roads.

Trails and roads at the area will reopen for public use after 1 p.m. on April 4-5, after the close of the youth turkey hunting hours. The nature center will remain closed until April 15 and MDC will reassess the situation at that point.

Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area has 1,071 acres with varied wildlife habitats such as woodland, forest, and restored grassland. The managed youth turkey hunts give youngsters a chance to learn hunting techniques and safety.
