Clinic at MDC's Andy Dalton Range to focus on wingshooting

ASH GROVE, Mo. – Whether you’re a waterfowl hunter or a quail hunter, the ability to hit a target in flight is the difference between a good day and one in which you come home empty-handed.

People interested in getting tips on improving their wingshooting ability should plan to attend the July 17 Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) clinic “Learning to Shoot: Wingshooting for the Hunter” at MDC’s Andy Dalton Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center. This free clinic, which will consist of a classroom and a hands-on shooting portion, will be from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. The Dalton Range is located near Ash Grove at 4897 N. Greene County Farm Road 61.

Topics that will be covered in the course by MDC Dalton Range Manager Mike Brooks will include an introduction to wingshooting fundamentals, distance estimation, non-toxic shotshell ammunition selection for hunting, and shotgun patterning tips. COVID-19 procedures will be in place during this workshop.

Participants in this clinic should bring their own unloaded shotgun and a minimum of 50 rounds of new steel ammunition in the gauge of their shotgun. People should leave all firearms (including concealed carry handguns) in their vehicles until the classroom portion of the program is finished and individuals are ready to move to the shooting range. There should be no live ammunition or uncased firearms inside the classroom.
