JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) encourages eagle-lovers of all ages to attend Runge Conservation Nature Center's free program, Eagle Adventures, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24.
Eagle Adventures features activities to entertain and educate the whole family. Eagle activities and crafts will be available throughout the day between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will also be live eagle presentations at the Nature Center at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Nature Center staff and volunteers will be available to help people spot wild eagles at nearby MDC's Marion Access on Hwy 179. MDC will provide a limited number of viewing scopes and binoculars. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather and to bring their own viewing scopes, binoculars and cameras.
"Every winter, the show-me-state welcomes record numbers of bald eagles and boasts some of the most plentiful viewing areas in all of the lower 48 states," said Runge Nature Center Manager Kathy Cavender. "Eagle adventures is a fun way for the whole family to discover nature and learn more about our nation's symbol. Just make sure to bundle up for the outdoor eagle viewing."
Runge Nature Center is located on Hwy 179 in Jefferson City approximately .5 mile north of Hwy 50. Building hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday with extended hours until 8 p.m. on Thursdays. The building is closed on Sunday and Monday. The outdoor trails are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
