High Ridgev Mo —The rifle/pistol range at the Jay Henges Shooting Range will shut down for approximately one week starting Saturday, March 26, to allow for adjustments to the recently installed bullet trap.
The work is expected to be completed in time to allow rifle and pistol shooting to resume by Saturday, April 2. However, in case of potential weather delays, work may extend into the weekend of April 2. Shooters planning to shoot either Saturday or Sunday, April 2 or 3, are asked to call the Henges Range at (636) 938-9548 to confirm that the rifle/pistol range has been reopened. This information will also be posted on the range’s homepage at http://mdc.mo.gov/regions/st-louis/jay-henges-shooting-range.
The trap fields, shotgun patterning and archery ranges will remain open during this time.
The new bullet trap was installed as part of an extensive renovation project that was completed last October. Its design objective was to contain all lead shot on the range, isolate it from the environment, and allow it to be collected for recycling. With the advantage of five months actual use, contractors are taking the opportunity to fine tune structural components to achieve maximum efficiency of that goal.
Normal operating hours of the Jay Henges Shooting Range through April 30 are Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. From May 1 through August 31, the range’s Wednesday hours will shift to 1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The Jay Henges Shooting Range is located off I-44 at 1100 Antire Road in High Ridge, and is owned and operated by the Missouri Department of Conservation.
