EUREKA, Mo.—It’s not too early to get prepared for spring turkey hunting season. So why not start talking turkey now? The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is opening that conversation in a big way, especially for those just getting started in the sport.
MDC’s Jay Henges Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center presents a Beginning Turkey Hunting seminar by Keith Wahlig Thursday, March 24, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wahlig has been a pro caller for over 25 years, winning the U.S. Open Gobbling Champion and the Missouri State Open, among other achievements. He will share his knowledge and experience to help new turkey hunters get a solid start, and help experienced hunters achieve even more success in the field. This event is free and open for all ages.
Turkey hunters will discover how exciting turkey calling and hunting can be at this informative workshop. Wahlig will discuss calling tips and techniques for beginners as well as provide advanced instruction. Participants will learn how to apply calling in real turkey hunting situations, as they explore different real-world scenarios that hunters often encounter. Visitors should come away with useful turkey hunting and calling tips at this information packed seminar.
Wahlig has received numerous other awards, including the Grand Nationals, Iowa State Open, Southeast Missouri State Open Champion, and more. He travels the Midwest as a seminar speaker and has appeared on the Outdoor Channel’s Knight & Hale Ultimate Hunting Outdoor TV Show.

The Jay Henges Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center is located at 1100 Antire Road, just off I-44, exit 269 in Eureka.
As this is an in-person activity, MDC asks all participants to observe current local social distancing and masking guidelines. Bringing and wearing face coverings is encouraged when appropriate.
Program registrants should note that families now have the option to link their children’s accounts to their own which will streamline the program registration process. Once a group account is set up, parents will be able to register their children to an event without having to logoff and login for each person. This allows parents to register an entire family or select family members to an event at the same time.
