COLUMBIA, Mo. — A crisp autumn day is always a good time to enjoy the outdoors and experience a football game. Join the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, in pre-game festivities to celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day before the University of Missouri (MU) Tigers take on the University of Indiana Hoosiers in Columbia.
All activities will take place under a tent located across the street from the east side of Memorial Stadium. Come and stay for the game, or just come for the National Hunting and Fishing activities, which are free and open to the public.
There will be a number of fishing, hunting and outdoors-related information for the whole family. Visitors can touch real animal furs and test their wildlife identification skills. There will be an aquarium featuring Missouri fishes, a fish casting station, live reptiles, a station for kids to make black and gold survivor bracelets, and several exhibits about Missouri's wildlife. Plus, MDC staff will be on hand to answer questions about hunting and fishing opportunities in the Show-Me-State.
"Missourians' have always had a strong tie to conservation and our great outdoors," said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Brian Flowers. "This celebration is an excellent way to recognize how important hunting and fishing is to our state and maybe even introduce the next generation to these outdoor activities."
National Hunting and Fishing Day was created by Congress in 1972 to commemorate past, present, and future conservation successes and to honor those sportsmen and sportswomen who began the modern conservation movement. Conservation makes Missouri a great place to hunt and fish for more than half-a-million hunters and 1.1 million anglers. National Hunting and Fishing Day remains an ideal opportunity to celebrate our outdoor heritage and introduce children to the wonders of nature.
