St. CHARLES, Mo.—Did you know that hunters who hunt deer by bow and arrow enjoy hunting opportunities four months out of the year? They also experience peace and quiet in the woods with little competition from other hunters. A successful hunt can feel even more rewarding with the additional skill and discipline bowhunting requires.
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) wants to give newcomers to the sport of bowhunting a chance to learn the basics in a safe and efficient way. MDC’s August A. Busch Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center in Defiance is conducting an Introduction to Bowhunting class on Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 6-9pm.
This program is designed for those wanting to learn how to deer hunt with a bow and arrow or increase their success in the field. The class will cover safety, required equipment, tree stand placement, and more to help participants get started in the challenging sport of bow hunting. Students will learn wildlife identification, habits and habitats, regulations, hunting strategies, and game care from experienced instructors.
Participants are encouraged to bring their personal archery equipment because the course will also allow for practice time on the archery range.
