LICKING, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host Squirrel Hunting with Dogs, Saturday, Oct. 20, from 1 p.m. until dark at the George O. White Nursery in Licking. Travis Mills, MDC outdoor skills specialist, says participants can expect a true Ozark squirrel hunting experience using dogs to locate and tree squirrels.
“Hunting with dogs brings a unique aspect to squirrel hunting,” Mills said. “We hope folks register and join us for an afternoon learning about safety, biology, wildlife habits, hunting equipment and game care.”
Mills said squirrel dog history and techniques concerning hunting squirrels with dogs will also be discussed. This event is open to anyone 10 years and older and registration is required in advance at www.mdc.mo.gov/events. Mills said participants should bring snacks and drinks, if desired, and wear appropriate fall weather clothing with boots or shoes that are appropriate for walking through the woods. Firearms will be provided and handled by MDC personnel.
