DEFIANCE, Mo. — Ever wanted to learn what the fun and excitement of shotgun shooting is all about?  The Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) new August A. Busch Shooting Range is offering beginning shotgun shooters a chance to learn the basics for free.

The Busch Range in Defiance is hosting a Shotgun Basics course Tuesday, Aug. 14, from 6-8 p.m.

This introductory course to shotgun shooting is aimed at offering beginners a comfortable first step into the sport. Class will start with classroom instruction where students will learn fundamentals of shotgun shooting, including safety, actions, chokes, and stance. Next, participants will experience a hands-on experience as they head to the range for actual clay target shooting.

Both courses are free and open to ages 10 and up.  However, they are not recommended for students weighing less than 90 pounds due to considerations of safe shotgun handling.  Those 16 and under must also be accompanied by an adult.  MDC will provide all firearms, ammunition, clay targets, and safety equipment needed.  Participants may also bring their own shotgun and ammunition to the live-fire session.

The Shotgun Basics class free, but advanced online registration is required at https://tinyurl.com/yddogfx2.

The new August A. Busch Shooting Range is located at 3550 Highway D, approximately five miles west of Highway 94.
