MDC adds hunter ed course in Scott County

Cape Girardeau, MO -- The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has added an additional Hunter Education course this fall in Scott County. The 10-hour course will be at the Sikeston Elks Lodge, 349 Donna St., on Friday, Oct. 29, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 30, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This will be the last opportunity to participate in a traditional Hunter Education course in the Southeast Region prior to the fall firearms deer season . Students must pre-register by calling the MDC's Southeast Regional office at 573-290-5730.

MDC will also offer a course at the First Assembly of God Church, 312 Dearborn St., in Scott City on Friday, Oct. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 16, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no pre-registration required for this offering.

Anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1967 must pass the course to purchase a firearms hunting permit. Certification is limited to students 11 years of age or older. Students under 16 must bring a copy of a birth certificate and any previously purchased permits.
