CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation's (MDC) Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center has two events coming up that are centered on enjoying the winter season.
The Garden Tour: Natural Beauty with Native Plants event is Saturday, Jan. 23, with two sessions available from 9 to 11 a.m. and the second from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants will create nature-inspired beauty products from native plants, enjoy herbal teas, relax and have fun.
"We hope folks will leave this program feeling refreshed and keep that feeling as they take home their own beauty creations," said Jamie Koehler, assistant manager of the Nature Center.
Registration is required for this program and participants ages 8 to 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
The Nature Center's Tree Walk: Winter Tree ID program will be Saturday, Jan. 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. Koehler said participants must dress appropriately for the weather to ensure a good time.
"This program will expand tree identification skills beyond leaf shapes and help people learn what other features may be used to identify tree species," Koehler said. "After all, you don't know a tree until you see it leafless."
This hike will take place outside on Ridgetop Trail behind the Nature Center. Youth and adult groups welcome and no registration is necessary.
