Harrisonville, Mo. – A free Youth Fishing Derby will be held at the Harrisonville City Park on Saturday, June 6. The derby is co-sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), Cass County Elks Lodge 2791, and the National Wild Turkey Federation. Participants can register from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the City Park Amphitheater, and fishing is from 9 a.m. to noon.

The first 200 youths to register will receive a free Zebco fishing rod and Eagle Claw tackle box. This event is open to youths age 17 and under. A free lunch with hot dogs, soda and water will be offered. Participants will have a chance to win trophies and prizes. Awards will be presented from 1 to 2 p.m.

In addition to fishing, youths will have a chance to learn how to shoot archery and pellet guns. Participants will learn shooting safety and skills under the supervision of an MDC conservation agent and volunteers.

If rained out in the morning, the event will occur in the afternoon. If Saturday's event is totally rained out, the event will be held Sunday, June 7.
