ST. CHARLES, Mo. — Whether the bow-wielding hero you admired growing up was Robin Hood or Katniss Everdeen, archery is a sport for all ages and generations. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) wants to introduce the whole family to this lifetime sport with the Archery Basics for Families class. It will teach the essentials of archery and allow for actual practice time.
The Archery Basics for Families class will be held Monday, Sept. 17, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the August A. Busch Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center in Defiance. The class is free and open to those age nine and older; however, participants 9-15 must be accompanied by an adult.
This program will introduce the fundamentals for safely and successfully shooting a compound bow, followed by hands-on practice. All equipment will be provided by MDC. The class will meet at the new Busch Range’s archery range. Topics covered will include archery safety, operation, shooting fundamentals, maintenance, and safe storage.

The new August A. Busch Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center is located at 3550 Route D in Defiance, approximately five miles west of Highway 94.
