DEFIANCE, Mo. — Whether the bow-wielding hero you admired growing up was Robin Hood or Katniss Everdeen, archery is a sport for all ages and generations. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) wants to introduce the whole family to this lifetime sport by offering two Archery Basics for Families classes over spring break.
Take advantage of a break from school to learn the essentials of archery. The classes are identical and will also allow for actual practice time. No equipment or experience is necessary.
Both Archery Basics for Families classes will be held on the Don R. Johnson Static Archery Range located at the August A. Busch Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center in Defiance. The classes are free and open to those age nine and older; however, participants 9-15 must be accompanied by an adult.
Advanced online registration is required using the links indicated for each class.
These programs will introduce the fundamentals for safely and successfully shooting a compound bow, followed by hands-on practice. All equipment will be provided by MDC. Topics covered will include archery safety, operation, shooting fundamentals, maintenance, and safe storage.
The August A. Busch Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center is located at 3550 Route D in Defiance, approximately five miles west of Highway 94.
