DEFIANCE, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is presenting a pair of opportunities for archery newcomers to get introduced to the sport at its new August A. Busch Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center in Defiance.

The Busch Range will hold two Archery Basics Open Houses in March, including one on Monday, March 12 from 12 p.m.-4 p.m., and Tuesday, March 27 from 1 p.m.-4 p.m.  Both events are free and open to ages 10 and up.

Rather than a set, formal presentation, these open house-style presentations will enable visitors the freedom to arrive at any time during the program. Upon arrival, MDC staff will introduce participants to the fundamentals of safely shooting a compound bow.  They’ll follow this up by actual hands-on practice.

The informal approach is designed to be a casual, low-pressure way for beginners to sample the sport of archery, learn the basics, and get prepared to take the next steps in the sport on their own.

MDC will provide all equipment needed; however, participants are also welcome to bring their own archery gear.  The program will meet at the archery range located at the August A. Busch Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center.  While the Archery Basics Open House is open to anyone age 10 and up, those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Advanced registration is required by going to https://goo.gl/mgTqau for the March 12 event and https://goo.gl/1AYmKV for the March 27 one.

The new August A. Busch Shooting Range is located at 3550 Route D, approximately five miles west of Highway 94.
