Cole Camp, Mo. – Healthy forests, woodlands, and pastures also benefit streams and wildlife. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a free private land management workshop 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Big Buffalo Creek Conservation Area campground southeast of Cole Camp. Families and property managers are welcome to attend.

MDC staff will discuss forest, woodland, and open land management practices that can help property owners achieve goals for profits, wildlife, and aesthetics. Conservation farming, management for deer and turkey, stream processes, and natural areas such as moist fens than harbor unusual plants will be among the topics covered. Big Buffalo Creek is a clear-water stream flowing past the area.

Participants should dress appropriately for a woodland hike. A free lunch will be provided. MDC staff will provide a fishing opportunity for youths.

Preregistration is required. To register, contact Andrea Thierfelder at 660-530-5500 or andrea.thierfelder@mdc.mo.gov.
