MDC to host free youth outdoor skills event May 19 at Sumner

Sumner, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a free youth outdoor skills event featuring target marksmanship with archery and firearms gear 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, at the Habitat Flats Lodge, 14585 Highway E, Sumner, Mo.

This event will include five skill stations where youths can try out gear while target shooting with experts providing guidance. The stations will include shotgun, air rifle, .22 rifle, sling shot, and archery. MDC will provide all equipment needed. All ages are welcome but all participants must be accompanied by an adult. Lunch will be provided.

There will be door prizes and a drawing for a shotgun donated by Quail Forever Shortgrass Chapter. Other co-sponsors for the event include Habitat Flats, AA Heating and Cooling, Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge, Friends of Swan Lake, Swan Lake Sportsman Club, Beck’s Hyrbids and Brian Ehrich, and Johnson’s Construction, Inc.
