Kansas City, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) hosted families for a HOWLoween romp on Oct. 18 at the Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center in Kansas City. A mild autumn night made for a pleasant stroll in the outdoor garden to see live birds of prey, friendly snakes, and not-so-scary spiders at nature exhibits. The event drew 450 people, many in costume.

MDC staff and volunteers added some spider web touches to the wetland bridge and some nocturnal wildlife to the woodland path. The Sycamore Station children’s play area featured the bone yard and some hideaways made with animal hides. Bat hats made in the crafts tent were spotted on visitors young and old.

The Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center at 4750 Troost Ave. offers a variety of conservation education and outdoor skills programs for all ages. The center is now open each Saturday, closed Sundays and Mondays. Although, visitors are always welcome in the outdoor garden east of the Country Club Plaza.
