COLUMBIA, Mo. — Want to improve your woodlot management or timber yields? The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is hosting a timber harvest workshop for landowners from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, at Luker Farm in Osage County. The workshop is free and lunch will be provided, however participants must register by March 6.
"This is a great opportunity for landowners to learn more and ask questions about small scale timber harvesting," said MDC Forester Aaron Holsapple. "Participants will learn about practices that will help them protect their soil and forest resource when conducting a timber sale."
Topics at the workshop will include small scale timber harvesting, harvest tree selection, log to lumber yield, and post-harvest wildlife benefits. Other items that will be covered include woodland management through cedar harvesting, thinning, and forbs and warm season grass promotion. Wildlife management will also be discussed for both forest and woodland ecosystems.
