MDC hosts native plant sale at Runge Nature Center March 24

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites gardeners and landscapers of all skill levels to the annual native plant sale at Runge Conservation Nature Center. MDC and the Missouri Prairie Foundation’s Grow Native! program will host the annual event on March 24, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Runge Nature Center, 330 Commerce Drive in Jefferson City.

Vendors will offer hardy trees, shrubs, and flowers native to Missouri, and will provide information about the benefits of planting native species.

“Whether you have questions about how to attract pollinators, provide habitat for wildlife, or bring beauty to your yard, native plants provide the answers,” said Nature Center Manager Kevin Lohraff. “And whether you want advice on converting 40 acres to native plants or you would like to buy a single milkweed plant for that little spot next to your sidewalk, the Runge native plant sale is just the place for you.”

The native plant sale provides an opportunity to support local businesses and conservation partnerships, as well as a chance to get outside, discover nature, and bring home some of the beauty to enjoy in home landscapes for years to come.

Native plant and garden product vendors will include Missouri Wildflowers Nursery, Gaylena’s Garden, Ozark Soul Native Plants & Landscaping, SunRise Gardens, Pure Air Natives, Claire’s Garden, and BlueFox Farm. Local artist Ann Grotjan will offer demonstrations on pottery and garden sculpture decoration technique. Musician and photographer Lloyd Grotjan will provide live music and nature photography.

The native plant sale at Runge Nature Center is free and no registration is necessary. Some vendors will accept preorders.
