St. CHARLES, Mo.—Scouts, this is your one-stop opportunity to work toward 14 different merit badges in the same day.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is hosting a Scoutacular Summer Bonanza event Saturday, Aug. 7 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area in St. Charles.  The event is free and open to both Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts.

Scouts will be able to visit multiple stations on the area and complete activities that will satisfy a variety of badges.  The many natural resources of Busch Conservation Area make it all possible in one place.  Merit badge stations will include:

  • Wilderness Survival
  • Water Conservation
  • Orienteering
  • Mammal Study
  • Bird Study
  • Archery
  • Canoeing
  • Reptile and Amphibian Study
  • Geocaching
  • Forestry
  • Fishing
  • Environmental Science
  • Forest Bathing
  • Hiking

Scouts are responsible for securing merit badge counselors for the event and bringing their merit badge cards. Food and drinks will be available for purchase during the event through the onsite bait shop concession stand.

The Scoutacular Summer Bonanza is free to attend, but advanced online registration is required by going to https://short.mdc.mo.gov/ZVe.  Participants should note that some stations have age ranges or limited space.  The link also contains more details and the additional information needed to sign up for activities with limited space.

As this is an in-person event, MDC asks all participants to observe current local social distancing and masking guidelines.  Bringing and wearing face coverings is encouraged when appropriate.

The August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area is located at 2360 Highway D, about two miles west of Highway 94.

Program registrants should note that families now have the option to link their children’s accounts to their own which will streamline the program registration process.  Once a group account is set up, parents will be able to register their children to an event without having to logoff and login for each person.  This allows parents to register an entire family or select family members to an event at the same time.
