SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – To Missouri citizens, black bears are a source of fascination, curiosity – and, in some cases, concern.

People can learn more about bears at the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) program “Missouri’s Black Bears” on Oct. 10 at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center. The free program will be 5-6 p.m.

MDC Furbearer Biologist Laura Conlee will discuss black bear biology, the current bear research underway in the state, and how Missourians can become bear aware and co-exist with these large mammals.

Following the bear program, attendees are invited to stay for MDC’s 80th Anniversary Open house event, which will be from 6-8 p.m. at the Nature Center. At this event, people are invited to join Missouri Department of Conservation Director Sara Parker Pauley, the Conservation Commissioners, and local leaders to celebrate the Department’s history and to share ideas about the state’s conservation future.

No registration is required for the bear program or open house event. For more information about either of these events, call 417-888-4237. The Springfield Conservation Nature Center is located at 4601 South Nature Center Way.
