Kansas City, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer free Discover Nature — Fishing programs in Warrensburg and Clinton during August. Discover Nature — Fishing teaches participants about fishing tackle, methods and where to fish. Equipment is provided and the program is a great way for families and youth to learn about fishing.
Discover Nature — Fishing will be offered 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, at the pond in front of MDC's Clinton Office, 2010 S. Second St. Lesson One and Lesson Two from the program will be taught. Instruction will include equipment, casting techniques with rod and reel, proper fish handling, how to tie hooks and lures onto line with proper knots, and how to bait a hook.
Lesson One and Lesson Two will also be offered 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, at the University of Central Missouri Trap and Skeet Range, 545 S.E. Division Road, in Warrensburg.
MDC will also offer Lesson One and Lesson Two 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, at Lions Lake, 5185 S.W. Blvd., in Warrensburg.
Discover Nature — Fishing is open to youths ages 7 to 15. Participants must be accompanied by an adult. Families are welcome to attend together. Pre-registration is required.
All equipment, instruction, bait and lures are provided free of charge. MDC connects people with nature, and fishing is a wonderful way for families to enjoy the outdoors.
Discover Nature — Fishing also includes Lesson Three and Lesson Four. Lesson Three discusses five common Missouri fish, their habits and life cycles. Lesson Four cover fishing with lures and fishing regulations. MDC will offer Lessons Three and Four in the Clinton and Warrensburg areas at a future date. But participants must take Lessons One and Two first.
