Kansas City, Mo. – Autumn can be a pleasant time to camp, and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free camping workshop from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Liberty Community Center.

This program will discuss gear and methods for both backpack camping and car camping. Backpacking can take hikers into remote and wild areas for overnight jaunts. Car camping also puts campers in natural areas, but with gear such as tents and food-laden coolers close at hand. Both types of camping are doable for family outings.

For all types of camping there are tips and tricks that can make the trip more enjoyable. Kathleen Savaiano, MDC conservation educator, will share suggestions and include some of her mistakes for others to avoid. This program will help newcomers go camping with confidence. Experienced campers can gain new knowledge about camping.

This program is for participants age 14 and older. COVID-19 precautions will be followed at the workshop. Registration is required. To register, visit https://short.mdc.mo.gov/ZyW.
