MOUNT VERNON, Mo. – Reeling in fish from a farm pond is an outdoors pastime that’s been enjoyed by generations of Missourians.

People wanting more information about how to be successful at this form of fishing fun should plan to attend a Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) pond fishing workshop Aug. 24 at MDC’s Chesapeake Hatchery. This free workshop will be 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Chesapeake Hatchery is located at 21186 Missouri Highway 74 in Lawrence County approximately nine miles east of Mount Vernon.

This clinic will show participants how to catch a variety of species that are often found in farm ponds. A portion of the class will give participants a chance to test their fishing skills at the Aquatic Education Pond located on the grounds of the hatchery. All ages are welcome, but anyone age 16-64 must have a valid Missouri fishing permit. Worms and fishing equipment will be provided, but people are welcome to bring their own fishing equipment and bait.
