KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites women to attend a free workshop on the basics of firearms and shooting. The program will take place Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Fort Chariton, 26826 Yarrow Trail, and the shooting range at Sugar Creek Conservation Area, southwest of Kirksville.

MDC will offer training on handguns, shotguns, and rifles, with plenty of shooting practice built into the courses. Students will learn about firearms parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, and shooting fundamentals.

Women ages 14 years and older are invited to register for this workshop, however, participants younger than 18 years must be accompanied by an adult.

“Understanding the basic operation of firearms, as well as how to handle and shoot firearms safely can open the doors to new opportunities for enjoying Missouri’s outdoors,” said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Rob Garver.

Space is limited to the first 30 women to register for the course. Register for this free workshop by contacting Garver at 660-785-2420 or Rob.Garver@mdc.mo.gov.
