JOPLIN, Mo. – Dutch ovens provide a creative and tasty way to spice up an outdoors meal, whether it’s prepared on a camping trip or in your backyard.
If you’d like to learn more about Dutch Oven cooking, plan to attend the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) workshop “Dutch Oven: Wild Game Cooking.” This program will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Walter Woods Conservation Area in Newton County. MDC’s Walter Woods Conservation Area is located at 7129 Dutch Elm Drive on the edge of Joplin. People can register for this event at:

During the workshop, MDC Community Education Assistant Jeanell Stockton will show how this cooking device, which dates back to this region’s early settlers, can produce a variety of delicious dishes. Participants can learn the basics of Dutch oven cooking and get to taste samples from a variety of dishes that are prepared with this device.
