ASH GROVE, Mo. – Spring turkey hunting involves a variety of skills. Knowing how to locate a gobbler, call him into shotgun range, handle your firearm in a safe fashion and understanding the regulations are all parts of a successful and safe hunt.
Hunters can learn more about the fundamentals of this popular spring pastime at the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) clinic "Turkey Hunting Basics" on March 28. This free clinic will be held at MDC's Andy Dalton Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center located near Ash Grove in Greene County. This program, which will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., is for hunters of all ages.
Topics covered at this seminar include calling, locating, firearms safety, hunt preparation, how to call a turkey, identifying legal birds and how to improve your shooting skills.
This clinic will be good preparation for those wishing to participate in either Missouri's youth-only turkey season, April 11-12, or the state's regular spring turkey season, April 20-May 10.
