MDC welcomes Nathan Greffe as resource forester at Marble Hill

MARBLE HILL, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) welcomes Nathan Greffe as the new resource forester at Marble Hill. Greffe replaces Marty Calvert, who recently took a new position with the MDC as a forest certification manager.

“We welcome Nathan to the area and we’re confident his forestry experience will be an asset to MDC and to Bollinger County,” said Rocky Hayes, MDC’s forestry regional supervisor.

Greffe has a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He grew up on a farm in Northern Illinois. Most recently, he’s worked as an assistant district forester for Deltic Timber Corporation in Arkansas managing 65,000 acres of Deltic Timber land. Prior to working for Deltic Timber, Greffe worked briefly for the U.S. Forest Service on the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois. He worked with the Department of Interior maintaining facilities at Sequoia National Park. Greffe is an avid hunter and particularly loves waterfowl hunting.

MDC resource foresters plan and manage forests and forest resources for public and private use. They protect conservation areas, enhance habitats for wildlife, facilitate public recreation and manage fire on the landscape. Resource foresters are forest experts who help manage conservation areas while balancing the needs of the forest with recreation opportunities and public use.

As a forest certification manager, Calvert still works out of Marble Hill. He coordinates the development and implementation of a forest certification program that promotes sustainable forest management on select MDC forested lands.
