KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) welcomes Brice Kelso as the newest resource forester covering Macon and Randolph counties. As a resource forester, Kelso will work with landowners to help them assess and meet their forestry needs.
MDC resource foresters serve Missouri landowners to help them actively manage their woods. This includes helping to implement conservation-minded practices such as timber stand improvement, prescribed burning, and timber sales to benefit overall forest health and wildlife habitat.
In addition to making one-on-one contacts with landowners seeking forestry advice, Kelso will work with other MDC staff, USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service, and other natural resource partners to deliver forest management information to landowners through workshops, training programs, and special events. Kelso will also assist in forest management on conservation areas in both Macon and Randolph counties.
"I'm excited to be working in this region," said Kelso, "I look forward to helping local landowners improve the health of their woodlands and add value to their property."
A native of Leon, Iowa, Kelso graduated from Iowa State University. Before assuming his current position covering Macon and Randolph counties, he worked in MDC's Forestry Division in the St. Louis, Kansas City, and Southwest regions.
