SPANISH LAKE, Mo. — If it’s too cold outside, why not discover nature indoors? The Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Columbia Bottom Conservation Area in Spanish Lake is his hosting a Kids Discovery Day on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. It’s a chance for children of all ages to beat the cold and explore nature with a collection of hands-on educational activities. All activities will be held in the visitor center. The event is free, and no reservations are needed, so visitors can come by anytime during the event.
The hands-on nature explorations will include touch table with animal facts, a sensory box for younger children, and an animal tracks activity. There will also be a special reading corner with a collection of winter and nature-themed books. Child-sized binoculars will be available to offer children a close-up glimpse at the feathered friends who regularly visit the bird feeders. Kids can also give their creative minds a workout by trying their hand at a bird craft.
The highlight of Kids Discovery Day will be the opportunity to see and meet live animals face-to-face who call Columbia Bottom home.
