WILDWOOD, Mo.—The Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Rockwoods Reservation in Wildwood has just added two additional programs to its lineup of July happenings. Both events are geared for children, but of different age ranges; from toddlers to early teens. Both programs are also free.
Turtles for Tots takes place Tue., July 10, from 10-11 a.m. It’s designed specifically for young children age 3-6. Young nature explorers will learn about some of Missouri’s 17 species of turtles. They’ll get the chance to meet live turtles and learn about what makes them unique. After, MDC naturalists will engage their creativity by conducting a turtle craft with the kids that they can take home. Missouri Owls is a program customized for older children, age 7-12. It takes place Tue., July 24 from 2-3 p.m. Kids will learn all about the Show-Me-State’s mysterious nighttime raptors. Participants will see some native owls and get a chance to probe the contents of owl pellets to gain insights into what these birds of prey eat. An owl-themed nature craft activity follows so the children can enjoy a creative experience. Rockwoods Reservation is located at 2751 Glencoe Road, off Highway 109 between I-44 and Highway 100.
