JOPLIN, Mo. – Excitement is building as the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center in Joplin draws nearer to its Friday, Sept. 6 open house. The public is invited to this special event, which will be 10 a.m.-noon. The Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center is located at 201 W. Riviera Drive in Joplin.
The Sept. 6 open house will allow the public to get their first looks at the refurbished MDC facility. Visitors can see the facility’s educational stations, browse the gift shop or hike the trails. Light refreshments will be served and, at 10:30 a.m., special remarks will be made by MDC staff and local partners who made this facility possible.
Shoal Creek’s regular hours will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday. The building will be closed Sunday, Monday and all state holidays, but the trails at Shoal Creek are open every day from sunrise to sunset.
In addition to providing office space for MDC staff, the executive director of the Wildcat Glades Friends Group will have an office at the Shoal Creek Center. Shoal Creek’s redesigned gift shop will be operated by the Friends Group.
