JOPLIN, Mo. – Now that warm weather is returning to the area, walking a nearby trail can be a great way to get exercise and see some of this area’s early signs of spring.
People who want to see and learn more about the outdoor world around them can take an afternoon walk with a Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) naturalist on March 24 at the MDC program “Conservation Families: Spring Stroll.” This free program, which is being put on by the staff at MDC’s Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center in Joplin, will be from 2-3 p.m. The program consists of a hike that’s approximately one mile in length over the trail system around the Shoal Creek Center. While on the hike, MDC Naturalist Jessie Ballard will point out the various signs of spring that are beginning to appear at this time of year. This event is open to all ages and participants will be asked to social distance. People can register program at:

Though this program is free, registration is required. MDC’s Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center is located at 201 Riviera Drive.
