Archery is the skill of using a bow to propel arrows. It can be used in hunting, but is also a competitive sport and recreational activity. Nearly everyone — regardless of age, size, or physical ability — can succeed at archery.

Join our instructors as we learn the fundamentals of shooting archery. This program begins in the Education Center then moves to the static archery range. This is a fun program for the entire family, ages 9 and up

Parents, grandparents, and adult mentors bring your youngster(s) to learn a new skill and spend time practicing. You don’t have to be a hunter to become a skilled archer. No experience is necessary and archery equipment will be provided. We will teach and practice the basics, helping you perfect your stance to shoot more consistently and accurately.

Registration period: April 10 - June 14

Location: August A Busch Shooting Range

Youth Conservation and Hunter Education Camp is a FREE, 2-day camp held by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) for ages 11-15. The camp will be held on July 22nd and 23rd. One goal of this camp is to encourage participants to leave with the confidence to explore Missouri’s diverse outdoors on their own. Youth Conservation and Hunter Education Camp will provide campers with a supportive learning environment where they can actively participate in “hands-on” outdoor skills led by MDC staff. Some of these skills include archery, shooting sports, fishing, atlatl, and canoeing. At the completion of camp, the kids will become Hunter Education certified so that they may continue using their newly learned skills. Registration is open to the first 60 applicants who have not attended before. You will need to create a username and password for your child to register.

This is a multistep process:

1) register online

2) watch for an email and a packet in the mail (PLEASE MAKE SURE TO HAVE A CURRENT EMAIL AND ADDRESS LISTED WHEN REGISTEREING)

3) fill out the packet ASAP and return by email or to 2360 Highway D St. Charles, MO 63304.

4) students must complete the knowledge portion explained in packet and return.

Location: Adlyne Freund Center at Shaw Nature Reserve

Are you someone that has never shot a bow and arrow before and you’re not sure how to get started? Or maybe you did when you were young, but never pursued the activity any further. Learn the basics of shooting the bow and arrow utilizing some of the techniques and methods that have been adopted by the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). This course is for those 10 years of age or older with the desire to shoot a bow and arrow but have little or no experience. Note: All equipment will be provided by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Not recommended for adults with shoulder or back injuries.

* Classes will be CANCELLED if we encounter inclement weather.

This course is designed to introduce students to the basics of archery including safety rules, stance, equipment used, and, of course, how to shoot a bow and arrow.
