Have you ever seen fireflies twinkling right around dusk? These special insects glow to put on a show! Come learn more about these fancy flashlights and what makes them special. Little Acorns programs are designed to help children ages 3-6 learn about the natural world through hands on experiences, crafts, and focused free-play activities.

Discover Nature Fishing Lesson 2

Participants will learn intermediate fishing techniques and skills. Participants will be taught how to tie an improved clinch knot and how to properly secure a variety of baits to various types of hooks.

All fishing gear will be provided by the instructors. Please wear clothing and close-toed shoes suitable for outdoor and water activities. It is recommended that participants bring sunglasses, a water bottle, and sunscreen.

This class is for Children and Families of all ages! Children must be accompanied by an adult.

All participants who complete all 4 Discover Nature Fishing Lessons will go home with a free fishing reward to encourage fishing with the family.

To register your child, you may need to make a family account, or add them to an existing family account. You can also make you child their own, separate account.

Join photographer Paul Moffett in exploring the birds of the confluence. After retirement Paul started work on documenting, via photography, the birds of the confluence area. He's documented over 300 specimens in that 20 mile stretch between the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers confluence and the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers confluence. He volunteers for Audubon at Riverlands primarily working with the Swan Society and Missouri Department of Conservation.

This program is part of our Nature Center @ Night series, the building will remain open until 7:30pm.

Fishing is a great chance to get closer with nature, spend time with family, and feed those close to you. In this virtual program we will be covering how to clean, prepare, and cook catfish. Join us for a real-time demonstration of how to remove the fillets and cook them both on a stovetop and in the oven.

This program is intended for all ages especially those interested in cooking and fishing. Registration is required for this program and please ensure your MDC account includes an accurate email address to receive a link to the program. Registration ends two hours before the program begins.
