But what will surprise an onlooker is the species diversity found when fishery biologists sample the stream's fish population with seines and nets.

Chillicothe, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host the 28th annual fall driving tour through the Poosey Conservation Area on Sunday, Oct. 19. The tour gives the public a chance to drive on roads and trails not normally open to the public for vehicles. Visitors will find fall color on display and conservation education stopping points as the route winds through rugged hills.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will host a Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. MDC Naturalist Jordanya Brostoski said guests can expect live owl presentations, naturalist-led evening hikes, a campfire, fall treats, crafts and games.

St. Charles, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) wants to know what Missourians think about its nearly 1,000 conservation areas around the state. MDC is in the multi-year process of updating management plans for conservation areas and invites public comments. The August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area in St. Charles County is among the areas under review.

Liberty, Mo. – More than 85,000 channel catfish were stocked in community lakes this week by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC). The autumn stocking of young catfish reared in MDC's Lost Valley Hatchery gives the fish a chance to grow during winter and be ready for anglers when spring raises fishing fevers.

Jake Allman on Tuesday, Sept. 30, carried several dip nets full of catfish to lakes at Liberty's Fountain Bluff Sports Complex.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and Ducks Unlimited (DU) invite the public to attend a celebration and dedication of the Duck Creek Conservation Area (CA) in Bollinger, Stoddard, and Wayne Counties, celebrating the renovations completed to date. The dedication will be held Oct. 11, at the area’s headquarters, beginning at 10 a.m.

Lee's Summit, Mo. – Tessa Landers flipped the fishing rod forward, with a little help from dad, and the practice lure almost hit the bucket painted up like a largemouth bass. Close was good enough for an angler at age 4 learning about fishing. She had plenty of company as more than 600 visitors participated in National Hunting and Fishing Day activities on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area.
